  1. I just read about Webb Ranch Farm the other day, and am planning on taking my son there this Saturday to visit his first pumpkin patch. They have all sorts of activities for under $5.

  2. From Alison Fanara:

    Fall:
Apple Hill Festival in Placerville (day trip) http://www.applehill.com/ apple donuts, caramel apples and fresh apple cider for the freezer, rides, art, super fall-y in the cool of the Sierra Foothills

Veteran's Day Parade - Downtown San Jose http://www.uvcscc.org/93_Parade_Flyer2.jpg (but hey I work here and they go right past my building - awesome/huge parade)

Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade - http://www.losaltosparade.com/ I've always wanted to go to this.

    December:
    - the Creche exhibit, of course http://www.christmascreche.org/
    - Christmas tree lane drive-by http://www.christmastreelane.org
    - Fantasy of Lights at Vasona Park in Los Gatos is fun too http://www.parkhere.org/portal/site/parks/
    - Back to Bethlehem in Santa Clara http://www.bethlehemsc.com/
    - Christmas in the Park and Ice Skating in the Palms, Downtown SJ http://www.christmasinthepark.com/ http://www.sjdowntown.com/DowntownIce.html

I also like anywhere with warm apple cider with cinnamon sticks brewing.

  3. Leaf crushing: Take a child (or two...or more) out with you on a walk through your neighborhood, or University Ave, or any other street that is blessed with lots of gorgeous leafy trees. Enjoy the crunch of leaves under your feet, inevitably morphing into chasing after the "perfect" crunchy leaf to claim. Also a great time to pick up any that are beautifully colored, interesting shapes, etc - take them home, place them in a small dish or plate as a memento of the activity. Cost: free, unless you stop for hot chocolate or cider...
